What Makes a Good Client?

what makes good client

Having been in business for 17 years, we at Fort Lauderdale public relations firm Durée & Company know what makes a good client. We know who we want to work with, and who … well … might be better off somewhere else. In order to provide the best possible services to our clients, we have found that the following characteristics make a superb client:

  • Having a realistic expectation of what PR is and what it can do for their business. These clients collaboratively work with us, and provide open, advance communication.
  • Understanding that they cannot control the media. Editorial is free, so clients cannot review an article draft. Plus, sometimes, media won’t provide us with questions in advance of an interview.
  • Knowing that it is imperative to accept positive editorial opportunities. By doing this, they enhance your reputation — and ours — among the media.
  • Letting us know what their short-term and long-term goals are.

There are many reasons we have been around for 17 years, and one of them is that we know a great client when we see one. We know that a client who works with us, and lets us do what we do best — public relations & social media, marketing & advertising, special events, and radio promotions & outreach — will obtain stellar results.

If you are in need of any of these services and would like to work collaboratively to achieve great things, come meet with us. Let’s see if we are a match.

Are you Newsroom Ready?

Newsroom Durée & CompanyBelieve it or not, every company that has built its own newsroom has found that the benefits and results are a vital part of their success within their industry. At Fort Lauderdale PR firm Durée & Company, we understand that every successful business is equipped with a well-run newsroom so when we came across this article from LinkedIn, we knew we had to share insight from our own personal experience.

Below, we’ve listed the two types of newsrooms, including their function, benefits and how they can be a great contributing factor to your overall content integration when it comes to social media marketing and media relations planning, according to LinkedIn. In addition to this, a newsroom is an important place for media, clients and prospective clients to learn more about your company and brand in a nutshell.

  1. The first type of “newsroom” is your company’s own internal marketing and communications team. Ideas, content and campaigns start here, so it’s important to have an organized strategy. For many of our clients, we serve as an extension to their team where we propose ideas, put forth communications plans, craft press releases and create content that can then be integrated into a website, blog and social media channels. Having everyone on the same page is the first step before information is shared publicly.
  1. The second type of “newsroom” exists online and is often the most visited page of a website. Here, you have the opportunity to share news, information, accolades and expertise and showcase the work you produce. Our role is to advise our clients and assist in creating the appropriate content, stressing that consistency is key. Your vendors, customers, partners and even the press may click here first, so staying updated and relevant is important in sharing your brand story. Below are the basics needed for every online newsroom:
    • General information about your company
    • Media representation, including contact information
    • Access to your company’s recent press releases, presentations, clients and images
    • Links to social media channels and company blog

If your business doesn’t have a newsroom, now is the time to build one! This will help establish your online reputation for your brand and set your company apart from its competition. So as we like to say, “It’s true that you only get once chance to make a first impression. But you have a million chances to make an indelible impression!”

Instagram’s Latest Updates

Instagram UpdatesInstagram, the popular photo-sharing app, is constantly rolling out new updates to keep its users on their toes. Fort Lauderdale PR firm Durée & Company is always staying on top of these updates and finding ways to incorporate them in our clients’ social media campaigns. Within the past few months, Instagram has been giving us new features to keep the app fun and fresh. Three of our new favorite updates have been the photo/video carousel, the save to drafts feature, and Instagram stories.

The photo/video carousel – Have you recently noticed some blue dots below a friend’s post? You can now upload up to 10 photos or videos as a single carousel post. To upload a carousel, you go to upload a photo and click the circle with a square in it that is all the way to the right in the bottom right corner. You then select the photos you want, filter, post and there’s your carousel! This is great for businesses who want to push out a product, but don’t want to blow up Instagram feeds. The carousel provides a clean way for people to post more than one photo.

Drafts – Did you know you can filter and caption your picture and then save it to a drafts folder to post later? Edit your picture, add your caption, and then click the black arrows in the top left corner. You’ll then get a message that says “Save Draft” in blue or “Discard” in red. Click “Save Draft” and then when you go back to post, your drafts will appear at the top of your photos. You can also click “Manage” above the drafts to delete any that you don’t want to post anymore. This is great for comparing different filters on the same image, or for saving until the prime time to post.

Stories – Yes, this is very similar to Snapchat, but Instagram stories allow you to have a wider reach than Snapchat. For Snapchat, you have to add someone’s username in order to see their stories. For Instagram stories, if your profile is on public, anyone who stumbles upon your page can view your story. To add an Instagram story, you click the camera in the top left corner of your newsfeed, take a photo or boomerang, then click “Your Story.”

We’re always interested to see what Instagram will come out with next! It’s fun to explore the possibilities of what you can do once a new feature is introduced. Happy posting!
