Children & Teens Aged 4–16 Can Take Flight at iFLY Orlando’s New Flight School, an Elite Training Program For Youth Flyers

Orlando, FL. – Sept. 29, 2017  They can fly, they can fly, they can fly! Children and teens aged 4–16 can now enjoy one-on-one indoor skydiving coaching at iFLY Orlando’s new Flight School. Students learn a progression of flying skills in a fun group setting, during sessions led by a flight instructor who is highly trained in safety standards and certified by the International Bodyflight Association (IBA). iFLY Orlando is located at 8969 International Drive. iFLY is the world’s largest indoor skydiving operation.

Each weekly session, which is a two-hour experience, includes a team briefing, warm-up with stretching, five minutes of flight time with additional shared time, two video clips of flight for students to keep, debrief with flight video review, logging of flight time and skills in a personal logbook, and light, healthy snacks. Each student receives exclusive Flight School member discounts on personal flight gear.

Each session is limited to 10 flyers total. A single session is priced at $69.95; a one-month program (four sessions) is priced at $239.80. Flyers in each session are organized into two groups based on skill levels: beginner and intermediate/advanced. During the session, parents enjoy free Wi-Fi and a conference room when available.

Four times a year, all iFLY locations host a Quarterly Flight School Competition, during which students can showcase their flying skill progression. Winners from each location advance to iFLY’s Annual Flight School Regional Competition.

“We are very excited to launch our Flight School,” said Amanda Siegel, general manager for iFLY Orlando. “It gives kids and teens a great opportunity to not only develop a love of indoor skydiving, but also push themselves to see how much they can achieve.”

Through Flight School, students develop key athletic and personal development skills such as safety procedures and proper use of flight gear; mastery of a progressive series of flying skills, starting with basic back and belly positions; how to set and achieve goals, teamwork and sportsmanship; leadership, discipline, and IBA competition flight pathways and disciplines.

The state-of-the-art Orlando facility opened in May 2017. It features dual, side-by-side wind tunnels with all-glass flight chambers. iFLY Orlando’s open single-story floor plan allows passersby easy viewing of the flight experience. iFLY’s former Orlando location, which closed in May for the opening of the new facility, opened in 1998 and was the company’s first location.

With iFLY, people of all ages and abilities can experience human flight in a safe, comfortable and fun environment — without having to jump out of an airplane. Each indoor skydiving facility is a marvel of engineering that replicates the sensation of freefall, creating conditions that allow people to fly on a smooth cushion of air. With the help of iFLY certified flight instructors, customers learn to fly, control their bodies in the air and experience true human flight.

iFLY Stimulates Minds with STEM Education Program

AUSTIN, TEXAS – September 21, 2017 – iFLY, the world’s largest indoor skydiving operator, is aiming to encourage K-12+ students to pursue careers in the fields of math and science with an innovative in-tunnel STEM Education program.

iFLY allows its participants to engage in hands-on experiments to safely enjoy the thrill of flight while applying integral math and science skills to the experience. The educational program has been programmed and developed by local educators to align with what students are learning in the classroom today.

“iFLY is proud to partner with local educators across the country, as well as select corporate partners to create customized curriculum and provide scholarships for students to engage in the iFLY STEM program field trips,” said Jenn McClain-De Jong, iFLY Chief Marketing Officer.

A field trip to iFLY includes a lecture, practical demonstration, classroom experiment and flight experience with iFLY STEM educators that aligns with Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core Math. The trip provides a unique, interactive and exciting alternative to a typical field trip. In addition to flight time for each student, they will also have the opportunity to test how different objects, such as water and tennis balls, behave in the wind tunnel.

iFLY’s patented Vertical Wind Tunnel technology uses clean-running electric engines and the most advanced propellers to draw air through its flight chamber. A method which produces a smooth cushion of adjustable floatation for a comfortable and safe flight.

Since its debut in 2015, the iFLY STEM program has hosted over 5,000 schools with more than 1,100 fields trips currently planned in 2017.

iFLY Fort Lauderdale will host an immersive “Open House” for STEM Educators in the West Broward area to explore how the iFLY STEM curriculum can inspire students and the future of science and engineering. Participants will enjoy hands-on demonstrations and refreshments, culminating in individual flights in the vertical wind tunnel.
