Getting Insight: Social Media Metrics

social media metrics

Social media has become a very important communication channel to help grow and sustain a successful business. Fort Lauderdale public relations firm Durée & Company is very familiar with the various social media platforms, as we handle a number of social media campaigns for our clients. While it’s important to keep content coming, it’s important to make sure the right content is being posted. How do you know if you’re posting the right content? The answer lies in social media metrics!

Social media metrics show different stats that indicate engagement, impressions and more. Facebook alone has a great tab on its business pages that allow users to see how the content is performing. How do you find this information on a business page? Click “insights” above your cover photo, and you will be introduced to data for your page including page views, page likes, engagements and more. It’s always good to study this data at least monthly to see what your followers are responding to and what they are not. You can measure this by looking at the reach for individual posts.

Twitter also has its own analytics that can be found here: analytics.twitter.com. This will show a 28-day summary of your tweet activity where you can see which tweets had the highest engagement rate and impressions. You can also choose to see your top tweets. This is a good tool that shows you the type of posts your followers like to see.

Instagram has yet to have its own insights, but at Durée & Company, we use Sprout Social to pull reports to see how our clients’ Instagram pages are doing. Sprout allows us to see a detailed report that even shows us which hashtags are getting the most engagement. Hashtags are key, so we definitely love that the reports show this!

When you’re on your LinkedIn business page, you can click on “analytics” at the top of the page for data on your posts. This will show you interactions, clicks on links, reach and more. One of our favorite features of the LinkedIn analytics is the visitor demographics. It’s always interesting to see (and good to know!) the type of person that is viewing your posts.

After reviewing these analytics for the different social media platforms, it’s important to take the time and evaluate what you are going to change for the next month to increase activity. All this data is out there to help you grow your social media channels, so take advantage of these amazing tools that are offered!

Instagram’s Latest Updates

Instagram UpdatesInstagram, the popular photo-sharing app, is constantly rolling out new updates to keep its users on their toes. Fort Lauderdale PR firm Durée & Company is always staying on top of these updates and finding ways to incorporate them in our clients’ social media campaigns. Within the past few months, Instagram has been giving us new features to keep the app fun and fresh. Three of our new favorite updates have been the photo/video carousel, the save to drafts feature, and Instagram stories.

The photo/video carousel – Have you recently noticed some blue dots below a friend’s post? You can now upload up to 10 photos or videos as a single carousel post. To upload a carousel, you go to upload a photo and click the circle with a square in it that is all the way to the right in the bottom right corner. You then select the photos you want, filter, post and there’s your carousel! This is great for businesses who want to push out a product, but don’t want to blow up Instagram feeds. The carousel provides a clean way for people to post more than one photo.

Drafts – Did you know you can filter and caption your picture and then save it to a drafts folder to post later? Edit your picture, add your caption, and then click the black arrows in the top left corner. You’ll then get a message that says “Save Draft” in blue or “Discard” in red. Click “Save Draft” and then when you go back to post, your drafts will appear at the top of your photos. You can also click “Manage” above the drafts to delete any that you don’t want to post anymore. This is great for comparing different filters on the same image, or for saving until the prime time to post.

Stories – Yes, this is very similar to Snapchat, but Instagram stories allow you to have a wider reach than Snapchat. For Snapchat, you have to add someone’s username in order to see their stories. For Instagram stories, if your profile is on public, anyone who stumbles upon your page can view your story. To add an Instagram story, you click the camera in the top left corner of your newsfeed, take a photo or boomerang, then click “Your Story.”

We’re always interested to see what Instagram will come out with next! It’s fun to explore the possibilities of what you can do once a new feature is introduced. Happy posting!

D&Co Spills How to Market Your Local Brand on Instagram

Instagram tipsSocial media has become a vital role in the everyday life of public relations professionals. At Fort Lauderdale-based public relations firm Durée & Company, we are crafting and posting content on social media for a wide variety of clients nationwide on a daily basis. We are continuously engaged with Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, but one of our favorites has always been Instagram!

While many use Instagram for personal uses, this platform has grown into a marketing powerhouse for companies and brands. So how exactly do you get maximum effectiveness out of Instagram? Below, we put together our tips about marketing your local business on Instagram.

  1. Include your location: Make it clear in your bio where you’re located so it is immediately apparent what your business is. Also, when posting images, make sure to tag your location. This will direct users engaging in nearby locations to your page.
  1. Use location-centric #hashtags: Hashtags are one of the easiest ways to ensure that your images are found by the right people. Where appropriate, hashtag your location in your post. Posts with 11 or more hashtags receive nearly 80% interaction! While we’re on the topic, take advantage of trending hashtags! Wherever possible, we incorporate trending hashtags into our social media posts. This can turn your post visibility to hundreds overnight.
  1. Piggyback on relevant local stories: Certain circumstances may allow you piggyback on local stories, and by that we mean inject your idea into breaking news in order to generate media coverage for yourself or business. If there is an exciting event happening in town, you can gain exposure by creating a social post featuring you or your brand at the event.
  1. Engage with your audience: It may seem obvious, but engaging with your followers is key. Continue to build strong relationships with your customers in your area by asking them questions such as “Where is your favorite lunch spot in #ftlauderdale?” This encourages engagement on your page.
  1. Giveaways: Who doesn’t like free items?! You can offer customers a gift card or products in exchange for engagement on your profile/sharing on their own profiles. You can also have contests on your page which can result in a giveaway.
  1. Show your hometown love: Make sure to show your love for your town or location. Support the local businesses and events around you. Show your audience that you love being located there just as much as they do.

As Instagram is growing to be one of the best marketing tools, it is important to use the right steps for audience engagement with your profile. With these tips, you can create a very personal feel on your Instagram profile while showing your local town some love. Just remember, your number one fans will always be your locals!
