Three Truths About Going Viral

Truth 1: It Takes Hard Work

With all our clients, we strive to tell their unique stories and make emotional connections with the public. These efforts alone don’t guarantee a viral hit but coupled with high-quality content it can set them up for success. With Rising Tide Car Wash, this documentary took months of work between pitching and securing footage. Our team could see the markers of possible success when at the time of release, it averaged at 15 to 20 thousand views per hour, leading to its current 51 million views. Producing high-quality, shareable content can be challenging, but it can make the difference between having video views of 100 or 100 million.

Truth 2: The Next Piece of Viral Content Is Unknown

There is no surefire way of securing a viral hit, and there’s no formula because it’s dependent on many uncontrollable factors. In a saturated market, the only thing different viral pieces have in common is that they provoke an emotional response with the audience. While sensationalism has had a place in the viral content market, focusing on positive messages can go a long way with future customers. Making the Most of Your Social Media


In today’s world, social media continues to play a larger role each year, each month – each day, it seems. To keep up with the times, the D&Co dynamos at Fort Lauderdale public relations firm Durée & Company make sure to take advantage of all the newest social media features – from Facebook live to Instagram stories.

  • Facebook Live and Instagram Live Video – Live video content is an excellent way to showcase clients, whether it be event coverage or a live cooking demo. Hosting a live segment will engage viewers with companies and products, and PR specialists are essential for executing these videos smoothly and effectively.
  • Google+ Events – The platform has brought back its event section to promote user involvement and engagement. Well, Snap Map now shares your current location, which appears to all contacts and friends on a map and continuously updates as you travel.
  • Instagram Stories – This feature is a hybrid that combines the fun and spontaneity of Snapchat stories with the execution and visual emphasis of Instagram photos. Instagram stories provide the perfect platform to showcase behind-the-scenes, exclusive content to promote a client’s event, new product, special deal – the list is endless.
  • Instagram and Facebook filters – The world of filters evolves every day. Facebook has recently introduced a ton of new filters and augmented reality masks, in addition to many stylistic filters that can cast unique lighting or hues in videos. Instagram too has launched new selfie filters that may remind many users of those pioneered by Snapchat.

D&Co Tells All: Instagram Stories

In the past few months, Instagram has been keeping us on our toes and rolling out a number of new features. A new logo that was introduced earlier this year sparked conversation and started a new era for Instagram. Next, the platform moved away from posts that were ordered chronologically, and created an algorithm for posts based on popularity (and what Instagram thinks the user would rather see.) The latest feature? Instagram Stories. It’s been all over the news and we just had to weigh in based on our working experience with this ever-evolving platform.

With Instagram Stories, posts can be brought to life with text and drawing tools that allow for creativity. The catch? Photos and videos that are posted to Instagram Stories disappear after 24 hours. We immediately thought of another popular social media platform, which resulted in a quick vote at the office over which platform was favored for this function. (It was a tie.) Instagram Stories enables the viewer to see new stories from friends by indicating a colorful ring around the friend’s profile photo at the top of your newsfeed.

All of the attention over Instagram Stories has almost eclipsed another important feature: the addition of business pages to Instagram. How is this different? Ultimately, the goal for these pages is to allow businesses to more easily connect with consumers and achieve a higher reach. The contact tab on a business page lets a viewer access all of the imperative contact information for a business – the phone number, email address and even directions to the business. This creates an easy and seamless process, putting the information right at the viewer’s fingertips.

From the start, Instagram has won us over and we love creating compelling content for clients. With the addition of these latest features, it will be exciting to watch this platform continue to evolve.
