Boca Raton, FL (Nov. 8, 2017) – On a beautiful Sunday morning at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Parkinson’s Foundation South Palm Beach County Chapter hosted another successful annual Moving Day® Walk that raised funds and awareness for Parkinson’s Disease on November 5, 2017.
More than 500 people attended the event that raised in excess of $100,000 to improve the lives of people with Parkinson’s Disease, their caregivers and all others affected by this disease.
The event was co-chaired by Ed and Jodi Gray, founders of Florida Movement Therapy Center that specializes in physical, occupational and speech therapy specifically for patients with Parkinson’s Disease. It began with Wake up with Zumba and a Pound Out PD dance followed by the North Broward Preparatory School Choir singing the National Anthem and the Tamarac Fire Rescue Cadets presenting the Color Guard. There also was a boxing exhibition where Parkinson’s patients demonstated their bob and weave, punch and jab skills before the Ribbon Cutting kicked off the Moving Day® Walk around the perimeter of FAU Stadium.
The top three fundraising teams each received a booth at the Movement Pavilion and helped kick off the walk.
They included Team Greggs Gang with Gregg Sobel and caregiver Cindy Sobel, Team the Fighting Swords with Ciaran Swords and caregiver Diana Swords and Team Lorraine with Lorraine Sanders and caregiver Steve Sanders.
Additional sponsors included JEM Research Institute, Medtronic, Florida Movement Therapy Centers, Paradise Home Health Care, Duree & Company, Granny Nannies Home Health Care, Palm Beach Orthopedic Institute, St. Jude Medical – Abbott, Dr. Cenk Sengun Movement Neurologist, Dr. Henry Moore Movement Neurologist, University of Miami, Lundbeck, Right at Home, Abbvie and Sunovion.
“Moving Day® is fun, it is great exercise and it’s educational,” said Robin Miller, Executive Director, Parkinson’s Foundation South Palm Beach County Chapter. “But mostly, the support of the community enables us to continue to make meaningful changes in the lives of those with Parkinson’s. We believe that people who move change the world.’”
Moving Day® highlights the clinically proven benefits of an active lifestyle in order to control and improve one’s symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. The goal of Moving Day® is to help every person diagnosed with Parkinson’s live their best possible life now by providing a fun, inspiring and informative platform that unites families, friends and communities in a day dedicated to movement.
Donations will continue to be accepted for 30 days after the event, ending on December 5, 2017. Visit www.movingdaybocaraton.org.

About Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects nearly one million people in the US and over 10 million worldwide. Parkinson’s is the second most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s and is the 14th leading cause of death in the US. It is associated with a loss of motor control (e.g., shaking or tremor at rest and lack of facial expression) as well as non-motor symptoms (e.g., depression and anxiety). Although promising research is being conducted, there is currently no cure for Parkinson’s disease.
