In parts of the country other than Florida, rising temperatures tell people that it’s summertime. That doesn’t work in the Sunshine State. Temperatures are balmy to blistering all year long. So instead, we look to the signature events of the season to let us know when it is officially summer in South Florida.
One of our favorite events is Claws for Kids at Joe’s Stone Crab in Miami Beach. Iconic, legendary, signature – those words were created to describe Joe’s. Go ahead, check. This is the third year Joe’s has lent its renowned reputation for stone crabs, namesake side dishes and charismatic ambiance to Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade (BGC).
On June 1, the trademark beginning of summer in Florida, we will gather together to enjoy some of the dishes we love most – hash browns, creamed spinach, Key Lime Pie and of course, stone crabs – to benefit BGC’s next phase. Currently under construction is the new 11,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art South Beach Club location, which will feature a teen center, computer lab, teaching kitchen for children, homework rooms, game room and a creative arts room. The new Club will serve approximately 400 local kids.
We can make this happen by having a great time with a great meal to celebrate the beginning of the next phase of beach weather. How hard can that be? Get your tickets from BGC Director of Special Events & Developments Kati Foley at (305) 446-9910 ext. 30, or via email at kfoley@bgcmia.org.
