Michael Elkins, Esq., founder and partner of Fort Lauderdale-based MLE Law, was recently recognized in the 2021 edition of Florida Trend’s Florida Legal Elite™ in the government and administrative practice area. The list of 1,263 honorees includes attorneys in private practice as well as top government and nonprofit attorneys.
For the 18th year, Florida Legal Elite has presented its prestigious roster of attorneys chosen for recognition by their peers. The honorees exemplify a standard of excellence in their profession and garnered the respect and esteem of their colleagues.
Elkins focuses his practice on Labor & Employment law. He assists clients with their day-to-day legal needs, administrative claims, matters pending in courts at any level, and employer/employee specific issues.
“I am honored to be selected as one of Florida Trend’s Legal Elite,” said Elkins. “I am not a traditional lawyer, and MLE Law is not a traditional law firm. By using modern technology, I’m making the business of law more efficient and beneficial for the client.”
Elkins is disrupting how lawyers attract and retain business. As the creator and host of the “Quarter Four” podcast, which he founded in 2018, he is using modern media to not only promote MLE Law, but his overall brand. The podcast covers the intersection between business and sports, providing listeners an inside look into the psychology of what makes individuals successful on and off the field.
Voting for this year’s Legal Elite attorneys began in October 2020, when Florida Trend invited all in-state members of The Florida Bar to participate. Lawyers were asked to name attorneys whom they hold in the highest regard or would recommend to others. The ballots were processed, checked and tabulated by an outside vendor. Attorneys were given a score based on the number of votes received, with more weight given to votes from outside their respective firms. Only lawyers currently licensed and practicing in Florida were eligible for selection.
The list of top vote-getters was further examined using membership status and histories provided by The Florida Bar. A panel of previous Legal Elite winners, representing different practice areas in cities across the state, reviewed the selection process and list of finalists. The resulting lists represent just over 1% of the active Florida Bar members who practice in Florida.
“Florida Trend’s Legal Elite program is an opportunity to celebrate Florida Bar members from a wide range of practice areas who have earned a high level of respect and esteem from their peers. The Florida Bar applauds those who were selected for this prestigious honor, which reflects their commitment to excellence and professionalism in the field of law,” notes The Florida Bar President Michael G. Tanner.
“Now in its 18th year, the Florida Legal Elite, published in Florida Trend’s July issue, provides its 270,000 readers with a peer-reviewed resource listing of the best lawyers in the state,” says Publisher David G. Denor.

Having spent the majority of his career working in large to mid-size Florida law firms, Elkins founded MLE Law to, among other things, modernize the business of law by providing alternative fee structures wherein clients are not charged for phoning, emailing or texting about their matters. The firm allows for modern, efficient and global representation while only charging clients for actual legal work produced. For more information about Elkins, visit mlelawfirm.com/about/.
