The Student Food Show, hosted by Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Food & Nutrition Services at Pompano Beach High School, is a highly-anticipated annual event that involves direct feedback from the students themselves. Approximately 200 students from Watkins Elementary School and Nova Middle School tasted a variety of potential menu items and instantly rated them on iPads at each food station. The fan-favorites were then introduced to the following year’s menu across the district. During the event, Chef Leonor from Wellness in the Schools (WITS), provided a food demonstration, introducing the kids to a new simple recipe they can eat at school and even make at home ― Roasted Chickpeas with Pesto. WITS is a national nonprofit that teaches students healthy habits to learn and live better. The organization works closely with Broward County Public Schools on a number of food and nutrition initiatives.
