A-Rod and Giancarlo Stanton Visit Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade for All-Star Week Event


Events can be stressful for publicists, but throwing a celebrity into the mix elevates the event to a whole new level. Alex “A-Rod” Rodriguez, an alumnus of Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade, recently returned home to the club where he learned how to play baseball. The purpose of his trip, which took place during MLB All-Star Week, was to open the new Teen Center and its beautiful mural by renowned local artist David “LEBO” Le Batard at Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s Kendall Club and dedicate the refurbished baseball fields by throwing out the first pitch. Having the celebrity component plus an All-Star event meant The D&Co Dynamos were needed on deck for some serious media attention for our client, Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade!

The Dynamos from Fort Lauderdale PR firm Durée & Company rallied the forces to spread the word about this MLB All-Star Legacy event far and wide. With all of our publicists on base, our team hit for the fences, outreaching to media for onsite event coverage spanning not only our local market but the national market. Thanks to our extensive media relationships and networking, we were able to personally secure local and national media to attend. We also utilized our far-reaching relationships to coordinate interview opportunities. The Dynamos provided staffing onsite and navigated on-camera opportunities with our client, as well as real-time social media coverage via Facebook Live.

But there was no seventh-inning stretch for The Dynamos! The ladies continued post-event media outreach by managing post-event requests for images and b-roll, hitting a grand slam for Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade and garnering media coverage that reached both national and international audiences. Media outlets included ESPN, “Entertainment Tonight” and “Extra!”; local TV coverage on WFOR CBS 4, WTJV NBC 6 and WSVN FOX 7; the New York Post and New York Daily News; as well as Sports Illustrated, People Magazine, People en Español and our local Miami Herald. 

The event was part of the MLB/Miami Marlins All-Star Week youth and community initiatives that seek to impact the lives of underserved and special needs youth. The guest list was star-studded, boasting VIP attendees such as Miami Marlins Owner David Samson; All-Star Outfielder Giancarlo Stanton; Miami Marlins legends Andre Dawson, Jack McKeon and Charles Johnson; and MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred. A-Rod gave an emotional speech about the life-changing experiences he had at the Club and meeting his baseball coach and mentor, Eddie Rodriguez. Following the ceremony, Stanton’s charity, All-Star Smiles Foundation, provided free preventative dental care and education for approximately 100 children with Dr. Craig Spodak, DDS.

D&Co Takes a Trip Through 2015


A-Rod Baseball ClinicAs the year comes to a close, award-winning PR firm Durée & Company is looking back on our successes. It turns out that 2015 was a banner year for Durée & Company – not just our clients – as we expanded our Fort Lauderdale office and experienced continued growth.

Between our non-profit, law, real estate and restaurant clients, we are delighted to have helped many businesses and organizations achieve numerous goals this year. Here are a few highlights from 2015:

  • Events with two baseball All-Star players, the San Diego Padre Jon Jay and New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez, for Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade (BGC). The Padre hosted The Jon Jay FMSbonds Celebrity Bowling Challenge, which raised more than $50,000 while the Yankee slugger hosted an interactive baseball clinic as a part of his season-long program of visits to Clubs across the nation.
  • The opening of BRIO Tuscan Grille at the newly expanded wing of Dolphin Mall in Miami.
  • Taking home Gold Coast PR Council’s Bernays award in the category of PR Campaign by a Small Company or Firm.
  • Joining Lubell Rosen, Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District and Heather Geronemus of Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K in the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
  • Planning and executing the Sabbia Beach Sales Gallery Grand Opening. Sabbia Beach, the first ultra-luxury “toes-in-the-sand” residential development in Pompano Beach in almost a decade, is scheduled to break ground in the first quarter of 2016, as part of the city’s incredible renaissance.
  • Duree influential business womenD&Co President Durée Ross was recognized as one of South Florida Business Journal’s 2015 Influential Business Women.
  • The Feeding South Florida press conference that announced Publix’s game-changing donation of cash and a refrigerated 18-wheeler to help feed hungry families in South Florida during the holidays and well beyond.
  • Thomas D’Eri of Rising Tide Car Wash spoke at the United Nations’ World Autism Awareness Day event “Employment: The Autism Advantage.”
  • Sabbia Beach joining forces with Rebuilding Together Broward Country to rehab a Pompano Beach home. D&Co President Durée Ross also joined the board for Rebuilding Together Broward County.
  • Two clients participated in this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach events. Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami hosted a breakthrough exhibition of Colombian abstract painter Carlos Salas and Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate sponsored Sylvie Fleury’s “Eternity Now” art installation at bassX.

It’s a Home Run for Athletes at Durée & Company Client Events

We also like to throw on the jerseys (and Durée & Company caps!) to cheer on our favorite athletes. Whether it’s basketball, football or baseball, we try to cover all of the bases when it comes to using our award-winning PR services for athletes at client events.

The past three weeks alone have had an all-start roster we’re beyond proud of. The latest D&Co appearances include:

  • A-Rod – Slugger Alex Rodriguez donated $1 million to Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade this month to assist in program expansion.
  • Birdman – Chris “Birdman” Anderson of the Miami Heat assisted with a Feeding South Florida™ food distribution in Miami during Hunger Action Month (September).IMG_0806
  • The Entire Miami Dolphins Team – Also in support of Feeding South Florida’s Hunger Action Month, we had an entire NFL team at a Miami food distribution. Now that’s some team spirit.
  • Coming Soon: Shane Battier – Retired NBA player Shane Battier, formerly of the Miami Heat, will teach South Florida youth the ins and outs of the sport at Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade in October.

Who needs March Madness when you have Sporty September? Thank you to all of the celebrity athletes out there for being good sports and lending a helping hand, and glove, to nonprofits in need. You’re all first-round picks in our eyes!
