As the mother of two, it is deeply disturbing to imagine my son or daughter rallying a cause because they lost their parent to a drunk driver. So when I announce that Durée & Company has the honor of working with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Broward and its Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K event chair Heather Geronemus, it is with a great deal of respect and pride.
MADD Broward is recognized for the courageous work it does to end the plague of drunk driving, and to support the surviving victims and their families in South Florida. A young, dynamic personality, Heather, who lost her beloved father to an impaired driver in 2009, leads MADD’s signature fundraiser. Spurred by her personal tragedy, Heather has helped MADD Broward raised more than $200,000 over the last four years, and is chairing its fundraiser for the third consecutive year.
Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K draws thousands of participants who are inspired to help the community and each other. The event is one of the top MADD fundraisers in the nation, and the top fundraiser for MADD in the state of Florida. The fundraising goal for 2014 is $95,000, a sum that promises to make a real difference in ensuring programs and services continue unabated. This year’s events will be held May 4 at Huizenga Park.
Durée & Company is proud to help MADD Broward carry out its mission of educating people about the dangers of drunk driving before it becomes a reality. As the public relations team overseeing the media management surrounding the Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K, as well as the announcements of MADD Broward, we will work closely with the MADD Broward team, Heather and the event staff to maximize the communications and media coverage.
