Plenty of blogosphere advice exists on waking up early and running to get the creative juices flowing, getting a jump on the day and staying healthy to make the best professional impression.
None of those reasons apply to why South Florida public relations firm Durée & Company’s team donned our running shoes and hit the bricks of Las Olas Boulevard at the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run (#MBCR2015) on April 2. While we wholeheartedly believe in the body-business connection, we have three other reasons for running a 5K in the name of building a more positive corporate culture.
1) Sweat bonds you as a team. We see each other every day. But in the office, we are head-deep into our individual projects, talking on the phone with media and advertising reps and conferring with each other on coffee, food runs and event times. While we are jogging in a 5K together, not only are we sporting the same cute shirts, but we are sharing other parts of our lives, like vacation stories, battling allergies, last night’s great TV show … and we really enjoy spending time together outside of work.
2) Building client camaraderie in the crowd. The Durée & Company tent was flanked by tents sponsored by our legal clients, nonprofit clients, restaurant clients – we were surrounded! We happily shared our post-run treats with the Lubell Rosen team, General Manager Rachel Perz from BRIO Tuscan Grille at The Shops at Pembroke Gardens and her husband, Heather Geronemus of MADD Broward, Lisa Kitei of Broward Performing Arts Foundation and Carmen Ackerman of Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District. Networking post 5K gives everyone this terrific glow of relief.
3) Running makes you part of the SoFla community. 5Ks, 10Ks, and marathons are part of the South Florida culture, and Durée & Company’s black and pink T-shirts were a part of a sea of corporate and community logos that made up the thousands of participants at the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run. Becoming part of the masses made us a part of the community that we are so proud to represent, and made our agency just a bit more visible.
We are, after all, in PR.
