Parisian Parallels: How Emily in Paris Mirrors the PR, Social Media and Marketing World of Durée & Company

By May 9, 2023No Comments

Durée & Company, a leading PR, social media, and marketing firm, has been in the business of helping clients elevate their brand image and reach their target audience for more than two decades. With a reputation for delivering exceptional results and staying ahead of the curve when it comes to public relations, marketing and social media trends, it’s no wonder that the Dynamos couldn’t help but find coincidences and similarities when watching the hit Netflix series, Emily in Paris.

At Fort Lauderdale- and Aspen-based public relations agency Durée & Company, there are many similarities and coincidences between our PR, Marketing and Social Media agency and the show Emily in Paris, making the show all the more relatable to our team.

Picture Perfect Headshots

As fate would have it, Durée actually had her professional headshots taken in the picturesque streets of Paris. The iconic locations, such as the charming cobblestone streets, quaint cafes, and the historic architecture, including of course the Eiffel Tower, all served as the perfect backdrop for both Durée’s headshots and the show’s scenes.

Ahead of the Curve

Like Emily, our team at Durée & Company is always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to connect with our clients’ audiences. From social media marketing to influencer outreach and content creation, our team is well-versed in the latest marketing strategies and is always adapting to stay ahead of the curve. In the show, Emily’s ability to think outside the box and her fearless approach to marketing is something that resonates with us at Durée & Company.

Beyond the Surface

The similarities don’t end there. Emily’s ability to navigate the complexities of cultural differences and language barriers in Paris is something that we can relate to, as we often work with clients in different parts of the world and in various industries. Like Emily, we understand the importance of cultural nuances and how they can impact marketing and social media strategies, and we always take the time to research and understand diverse markets to ensure that our campaigns are effective and well-received, no matter what language they are created in or where in the world they are put into place. This attention to detail is what sets us apart and enables us to deliver successful campaigns time and time again.

Unique PR Campaigns

Another coincidence between Durée & Company and Emily in Paris is that our founder, Durée, had a similar experience with a client’s hot air balloon campaign early in her career, this time with the famous tequila brand, Jose Cuervo 1800 anejo tequila. The campaign involved promoting a balloon shaped like the Jose Cuervo 1800 anejo bottle as it toured different hot air balloon shows across the US, including Albuquerque’s well known International Balloon Fiesta. Like Emily’s campaign in Paris, the Jose Cuervo hot air balloon tour was a unique and exciting opportunity for Durée to showcase her PR skills and creativity in media markets around the US. This shared experience further underscores the similarities between Emily and Durée, highlighting their shared passion for pushing boundaries and thinking outside the box when it comes to marketing and PR strategies.

Fast Foodies

It’s not just the hot air balloon campaign that Durée Ross and Emily Cooper have in common. Both have also worked with fast-food giants, albeit on different sides of the burger wars. Durée worked on the Burger King account, while Emily Cooper presented a pitch to work on the McDonald’s account. The rivalry between these two iconic brands is legendary, and it’s fascinating to see how Durée and Emily navigated their respective roles. Whether it’s coming up with innovative marketing ideas, managing client relationships, crisis situations or working with franchisees, Durée and her team have a wealth of experience in the food and beverage industry that enables us to create effective campaigns for our clients.

Times have certainly changed since Durée’s days of working with Burger King, where Durée would anxiously wait for her beeper (yep, beepers!) to go off at any given moment alerting of a crisis situation anywhere in the US. But one thing that hasn’t changed is our dedication to providing top-notch service to our clients, without the need for beepers (thankfully!) but that same around-the-clock or on-call service. Despite the advances in technology, we at Durée & Company still strive to provide our clients with the same level of responsiveness and dedication as we did during the beeper era.

A Sweet Connection

Coincidentally, Durée & Company is not the only connection between the show and our agency. In fact, the famous French pastry shop La Durée is featured throughout the entire first season of Emily in Paris. This similarity only adds to the many links between our agency and the show. La Durée’s iconic macarons and elegant decor are a symbol of Parisian sophistication and culture, which is a theme that is also reflected in many of the projects and campaigns that Durée & Company works on. The coincidence of having a similar name only adds to the fun and relatable aspects of the show for our team at Durée & Company. It’s clear that the show’s portrayal of Parisian culture, fashion, and marketing has resonated with us in many ways, making Emily in Paris an entertaining and inspiring watch for our team. And who doesn’t love French macarons or the delicious French pastries from La Durée?

Durée Cosmetics

Another coincidence between Emily in Paris and Durée & Company is the cosmetic brand featured in the first season of show, Durée Cosmetics. Just like our agency, the brand shares a similar name, which only adds to the many links between the show and our agency. Emily’s excitement for attending the exclusive event for Durée Cosmetics in the show mirrors our passion for helping clients elevate their brand image and reach their target audience.

Emily’s hope of convincing CMO Olivia to return to Savoir also reflects our dedication to building strong relationships with our clients and understanding their priorities to create customized marketing strategies that deliver results. The coincidence of the cosmetic brand’s name is yet another fun and relatable aspect of the show for our team at Durée & Company. Since the debut of Emily in Paris, Durée & Company’s website has experienced a surge in SEO due to the high volume of searches for Durée Cosmetics, a fictional brand featured in the show. Thank you, Netflix!

We Deliver Results

Another component of the show that resonates with us is Emily’s commitment to building strong relationships with her clients. At Durée & Company, we understand the importance of building trust and establishing a rapport with our clients. By understanding their goals and priorities, we can create customized marketing strategies that deliver results.

The show’s depiction of the fast-paced and ever-changing world of PR and marketing is something that we can certainly relate to. Just like Emily, we are always adapting to new technologies and trends, and staying ahead of the curve is something that we take seriously. By embracing new tools and platforms, we can deliver innovative and effective marketing solutions that help our clients achieve their goals.

While Emily in Paris is a fictional show, there are many facets of the character and her approach to our PR and marketing campaigns that we can relate to at Durée & Company. From her fabulous fashion to her fearless attitude to her commitment to building strong relationships with clients, Emily serves as a reminder of the importance of staying ahead of the curve and embracing new strategies to achieve success in today’s ever-changing business landscape.
