How Can You Manage Your Time Effectively?

At Durée & Company, we are responsible for completing many different projects and tasks with multiple deadlines every day. Time management is a crucial skill that our team invests in to set us up for success. With so many apps, tools and tips on the market, it can be hard to know the best ways to manage your time. Here are our top three tips to get you organized:

  1. Monitor Your Time

You can’t know how to maximize your time unless you know where it’s going and understanding where you spend your time is a crucial first step. Our team uses time-tracking tools to measure client work hours, and we use the recorded data to make informed decisions on where we can save time. We suggest monitoring your time daily with check-ins every 30 to 45 minutes to make sure you’re staying on track and devoting the right amount of time to the task at hand.

  1. Prioritize Tasks

Lists are essential for breaking down projects and keeping on top of assignments. Why, then, does an entire day go by and only two things have been crossed off a page-long list? The key here is making priority lists that focus on three key responsibilities that must get done that day. Make it a habit to create a priority list at the end or beginning of your workday to stay on track. Priorities may shift at a moment’s notice in the PR industry, and that’s why it’s important to communicate and set goals accordingly.

  1. Avoid Multitasking

Many of us believe that we are more productive while multitasking. The truth is, switching from one task to another inhibits our long-term productivity because our brains expend a lot of energy every time we start a new assignment. Avoid getting tricked by the emotional satisfaction of multitasking by dedicating at least 20 to 30 minutes to each task. Finish one job at a time rather than starting five. Break up larger projects into smaller manageable components to ensure projects are being accomplished and moving forward.
