Last week, Miami experienced an art takeover! Fairs, parties and museum exhibitions gave residents and visitors dozens of options to explore during Miami Art Week. However, the Durée & Company Dynamos had no problem choosing which show to attend because the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), North Miami’s newest exhibition challenged time itself!
MOCA hosted an artist reception to celebrate the opening of “How to Unlock a Portal” by Swedish artist Jacob Felländer on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Attendees included Miami tastemakers and art aficionados from around the world – all enjoying cocktails, canapes and live music.
The groundbreaking exhibition mark’s the artist’s US debut and represents Felländer’s creative journey over the past 15 years. “How to Unlock a Portal” leads the viewer into another dimension by traveling through a fusion of virtual reality, painting, photography, and sculpture. By capturing not one frozen moment in time, but several, Felländer challenges the definition of time, space, perspective, and depth. Put on the virtual reality goggles and the room disappears as you deeply enter the painting in all of its degrees.
If you missed the exhibition at Art Basel Miami Beach, “How to Unlock a Portal” is on display until February 11, 2018. Grab a pair of virtual reality goggles and get ready to jump into Jacob Felländer’s world! Take a sneak peek into virtual reality here.
