National Volunteer Month

By April 18, 2017May 23rd, 2018No Comments

April is National Volunteer Month, and Fort Lauderdale PR firm Durée & Company is happy to suggest some fun ways to participate! D&Co is proud to represent and support a number of nonprofit clients who make an extraordinary difference in the community. One of our favorite quotes in the D&Co office is “Don’t give back, just give.” So, in honor of National Volunteer Month, here are some ways to get involved in the South Florida community, whether it be volunteering or participating in nonprofit events.

Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K – On April 30 at Huizenga Plaza in Fort Lauderdale, more than 2,000 walkers and runners will make strides in the ongoing fight against drunk driving. Help make our community a safer place by signing up to walk or run in this fun-filled event. Volunteer Chairperson and National Board Member Heather Geronemus established the Fort Lauderdale event in 2011. Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K has raised over $1 million for MADD Broward & Palm Beach. All event proceeds benefit MADD Broward & Palm Beach’s community education, victim support services and youth programs.

FLIPANY – FLIPANY’s mission is to empower youth and their families through physical activity and nutrition education programs while raising awareness and creating policies for a healthier community. On June 2, volunteers will be building a new playground for children in the community. The best part? Children were challenged to draw images of their ideal playground, and those drawings will be used to pick out the equipment! Click here for more information on volunteering with FLIPANY.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade – BGCMIA provides great futures to today’s youth. You can get involved by being a special events volunteer or club volunteer assisting with the members. Special events volunteers assist with the Clubs’ big fundraisers, including the annual “Claws for Kids” happening in just a few weeks on May 7. They have both one-time and ongoing volunteer opportunities, so you can do what works best for your schedule.

Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami – Get involved with MOCA by joining their docent program, interning, or volunteering during Art Basel or other special events. Docents and volunteers will learn about the various exhibitions at the museum and broaden their knowledge of contemporary art. During Art Basel, volunteers experience behind-the-scenes work at Miami’s most prestigious art events.

All four of these organizations do so much to make our community a better place and we couldn’t thank them enough. Do your part and get involved this month, or anytime! They truly appreciate all their volunteers and know that they couldn’t do it without all the support they receive from those who donate their time.
