In response to community demand, Valley View’s Rocky Mountain Urology Center is pleased to continue to expand and welcome Stephen Williams, MD, a urologist specializing in urologic oncology, to the team. Dr. Williams is the only specialist for urologic oncology in the region, reducing the travel time for patients to receive this type of care.
Dr. Williams joins Valley View’s three board-certified urologists ― Aashish Kabra, MD, Jamie Lowe, MD and Scott Castle, MD ― and nurse practitioner Ashley Gilley, ANP at Rocky Mountain Urology Center. As the only full-time urology practice, Rocky Mountain Urology Center is the most comprehensive urology group in the region, from Aspen to Glenwood and Vail to De Beque.
During his 22-year career, Dr. Williams has provided care for patients with prostate, bladder, testicular and kidney cancers, in addition to other general urology concerns. Prior to joining Valley View, Dr. Williams spent 10 years as director of urologic oncology for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. He has been on the faculty of several medical institutions and served in leadership roles both in northern and southern California.
After completing his undergraduate degree at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey, Dr. Williams attended medical school at Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. He went on to the University of California, Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento to complete a six-year urology residency program. He also completed a two-year fellowship program at the University of Southern California, Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center in Los Angeles, where he specialized in the surgical treatments of urologic cancers.
His philosophy of care involves creating long-term and rewarding relationships with his patients. “I love urology because I’m involved in the entire spectrum of patient care,” he said. “I establish the diagnosis and then am able to offer an array of treatments — both medical and surgical —and provide follow-up care. For patients diagnosed with cancer, their post-treatment care can last years, so I really get to know my patients along their journey.”
Dr. Williams was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He and his wife Lori recently relocated from southern California to the Roaring Fork Valley and are thrilled to live in the area. A former collegiate athlete, Dr. Williams continues to make exercise a high priority and enjoys playing golf and tennis, hiking, skiing, practicing yoga, and playing and listening to music.
The Rocky Mountain Urology Center provides the most regional coverage with locations in Aspen, Eagle, Rifle, and Glenwood Springs, reducing travel and wait times. Rocky Mountain Urology Center’s physicians are experts in general urology and have subspecialty experience in urologic cancers, female urology and kidney stone disease.
