Valley View is pleased to announce that the Valley View Heart & Vascular Center has once again received the esteemed Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology for Chest Pain – MI Registry™.

The Chest Pain – MI Registry™ Performance Achievement Award program recognizes hospitals participating in the registry who have demonstrated sustained, top-level performance in quality of care and adherence to guideline recommendations. Through full participation in the registry, hospitals engage in a robust quality improvement process, using data to drive improvements and positively impact patient outcomes for heart attack patients.

“We are pleased to receive the Performance Achievement Award again. This award further demonstrates the skill of our heart and vascular surgeons to treat heart attack patients using the most current, science-based guidelines,” said Frank Laws, MD, medical director of the Valley View Heart & Vascular Center. “Our team aims to remain at the front lines of innovation to continue to deliver exceptional care, and we are proud to add this award to our list of recent milestones.”

The Heart & Vascular Center team strives to implement the latest approaches to treat patients with cardiovascular disease and truly loves the work that they do. The team offers a wide range of treatments, expertise in arrhythmia care, and the most experienced cardiothoracic surgeon on Colorado’s Western Slope. Providing open heart surgery, the most comprehensive approach to AFib, vascular treatment and management, and surgical procedures involving the lungs, among other services, Valley View offers top cardiac care to the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond.

Other recent milestones that the Valley View Heart & Vascular Center has achieved include:

  • Cardiothoracic Surgeon Stephen Jones, MD and the Cardiovascular Operating Room team have completed 100 open heart procedures. This does not include additional lung cases that the team has successfully performed.
  • Katrina Metcalf, FNP-BCC, MSN, RN, BS, a board-certified nurse practitioner, joined Valley View’s Heart and Vascular Center in Grand Junction. She brings vast inpatient and outpatient adult cardiology experience to the team, along with a nurse practitioner master’s degree in science from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs.
  • Valley View’s Heart and Vascular Center expanded with an outreach clinic at Memorial Regional Health, where patients can see distinguished physicians such as Frank Laws, MD, who is both an electrophysiologist, interventional cardiologist, and Medical Director of the Heart & Vascular Center.
  • Provision of vascular services by Qaisar Khan, MD, FACC and Behzad Molavi, MD, FACC, allowing patients to receive their peripheral vascular services locally rather than driving to Denver – which is the next closest location.
  • Providing expert insight to expand the promotion of arrhythmia education through the FixaFib website, and in March, through the launch of the new FixAFib mobile app. The FixAFib mobile app allows patients, or prospective patients, to access different educational resources on their mobile phones. There will also be a chat box feature where they can ask any question about symptoms or arrhythmias, and get answers to those questions.
  • Participation in community fairs including BeaconFest and Grand Junction Senior Life Expo.

The Heart & Vascular Center offers a wide range of treatments and the most experienced cardiothoracic surgeon on Colorado’s Western Slope. Referrals for services are not required by the Heart & Vascular Center, and the cardiovascular team is available for patients 24/7/365 for emergency care.
