What New Food Items Will Make the Grade for Next Year’s Cafeteria Menu? BCPS Students to Taste Test New School Menu Items

By April 12, 2017No Comments

Broward County Public Schools students will get a chance to help decide new cafeteria menu items for next school year. Students from Riverland Elementary School and Crystal Lake Middle School will participate in the District’s Food and Nutrition Services Annual Food Show on Friday, December 9, 2016, at Pompano Beach High School.

The student food critics will sample as many as 25 potential menu items and share instant feedback on iPads located at each food taste test station. The most popular items will become potential selections for meals served next school year in cafeterias across the District.

The Food Show will also include cooking demonstrations by Celebrity Chef Rudy Poindexter, who will show students how to prepare nutritious and delicious meals at home. Chef Poindexter will reveal that healthy meals can be tasty and easy to prepare. Students will sample recipes, such as Santa Fe chicken salad, pasta with a twist and roasted butternut squash.

Some of last year’s Food Show standouts and current menu favorites include chicken n’ waffle bites, boneless wings, chicken sliders, ham and cheese on an Hawaiian roll, spicy sweet potato fries, and Greek strawberry yogurt and mango swirl.
